World Book Day is a celebration of reading and literature, inspiring people of all ages to explore stories and discover the joy of books. Aphra Brandreth, MP for Chester South and Eddisbury, is inviting all primary school children in the constituency to take part in a short story competition ahead of this year’s World Book Day. Following the success of last year’s competition, which saw Matilda, a Year 3 pupil at Eaton Primary School, win the top prize, Aphra is excited to see what imaginative stories or poems children will create this year. The competition aims to spark creativity and encourage young writers to express their imaginations. Children can write about any theme, from magical adventures to everyday tales or stories about a favourite toy. Each entry should be no more than 250 words. To enter, parents, carers, or guardians should email stories to aphra.brandreth.mp@parliament.uk or post them to: Aphra Brandreth MP 58a High Street Tarporley CW6 0AG Please include your child’s name, year group, school, and address. All entries must be received by 23:59 on Monday 16 March 2026. Aphra Brandreth MP said: "World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading and creativity. I’m excited to see the imaginative stories or poems from children across our part of Cheshire. Every story or poem is a chance to have fun with words and bring ideas to life.”
