During World War II, George Tweed and five other Americans took to the forest when the Japanese invaded Guam in December, 1941. With help from the indigenous CHamorus he managed to evade the Japanese troops, who tortured, imprisoned, and executed anyone they thought might have helped him. Two years and seven months later, George was the only surviving American when he was rescued by the U.S. Navy. During the time he was on the run, he spied on the enemy, took notes, installed electric lights, repaired and used an old radio, and started a newspaper to share information with supporters of the American cause.
