Session #32 Jason Beckett: "Distributing Crumbs or Demanding Bread?Sketching the Global Legal Order"

Jason Beckett Associate Professor, Department of Law, AUC Join our coming webinar if you are interested to learn more about how the current global governance order precludes development, and traps under-developed states in their colonial roles: deposits of raw natural resources and cheap labour, to be plundered by their old colonial masters and their corporations. In this webinar, Jason Backett will lead a discussion around the way colonialism has been repackaged for the contemporary era through Public International Law (PIL) and the complementary systems through which it operates, especially what he terms as the "Global Legal Order (GLO)'' system. Dr. Backett will further discuss how the interlocking policies and decisions by international organizations like IMF, World Bank, WTO, and the structures of international investment arbitration ensure a steady process of (re)colonization through debt, facilitating national governance by remote control.
