#alvaraalto #design #stefanopasotti The N ° 60 stool by Alvar Aalto is one of the most iconic and representative products of this designer. It was conceived in 1933 by the architect and designer Alvar Aalto. Like other furnishing elements he conceived on the occasion of specific architectural creations, his conception is contextual to the project for the Viipuri library Now considered a design classic of the twentieth century, it reflects the attention that Aalto placed in the use of materials, in the relationship between nature and technology and in the desire not to deny its tradition but rather to continue it. Very functional and simple in its structure, the 60 stool is stackable and consists of three legs that support a round seat made of solid wood contained between two sheets of plywood. There is also a version with 4 legs but it is, let's say, smaller and for children. Then in editing I put all the images: to see stacked it looks almost like a sculpture The characterizing element of this seat is found in the L-shape of its legs, the bending process of which was conceived by Aalto himself together with Otto Korhonen, owner of an Artek furniture manufacturer. This is a fundamental element, because there was an incredible study behind it to make this product. The procedure consists in inserting different birch wood veneers in longitudinal cuts made by comb in the solid wood legs. The shaping takes place by placing the elements in a hot mold to fix the gluing. The round part is actually made of solid wood that leaves an empty space in the center, at the upper and lower ends we put these birch sheets and then everything is shaped with a numerical control milling machine. Once all the parts have been obtained, they must be colored: there are different shades of color, but even if we do not want a true color, but leaving a neutral version, a transparent impregnator is applied to bring out the wood grain better. The junction between the legs and the seat is made with simple screws. The stool, also produced by Artek in a version with four legs, is sold in different finishes and is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York Among other things, there was a great controversy between Artek and IKEA, due to the fact that the last company made a stool that is practically the same, but with 4 legs. To an inexperienced eye they seem the same, in reality IKEA for a matter of costs has made the stools completely in plywood, to have a more resistant but at the same time cheaper stool. In addition to the fact that he tried to slightly modify the appearance: For example, there are 4 legs instead of 3 as for the adult version of Artek. He made some bevels, and the fixing is with 2 screws, instead of 3. In short, many small changes ... end Subscribe to my channel here https: // / stefanopasottidesignstudio Visit my website http://www.stefanopasotti.com Follow me also on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/stefanopasot...
