Restoration of 100 Years Old Hand Plane
Satisfying woodworking project of an old hand plane restoration (late 1800) from Mathieson & Son. I wanted to keep the old patina so I didn't sand it back (except for the sole) instead I deep cleaned all the wooden body with steel wool (1 and 00) and mineral spirit. I treated the blade with vinegar for one day and I sanded and sharpened the edge with diamond stones. I'm happy with the result, it looks awesome, not sanding gave it justice and preserved the old look.
