The First Romanian Network Operators Group Meeting, 12 November 2014. The first international conference of Internet and telecommunications operators in Romania, RONOG 2014, which took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, laid the foundations of the first communication platform in the IT&C field oriented to the exchange of ideas, experiences and opinions, to the debate of new technologies and trends in the field, but also on the technical aspects that can influence the Internet in Romania. During the RONOG conference, specialists addressed topics of interest for the profile market such as the perspectives and challenges faced by telecommunications operators in Romania, technical problems and upgrades of systems and equipment, but also information security, the benefits they offer connecting operators to Internet Exchange nodes and IPv6 implementations. Silviu Sofronie from Bitdefender spoke about botnet behavior and security and detection methods, while Petru Fuiorea from ROL.ro presented case studies proposing an interactive platform as a business solution. "At the moment, the internet belongs to media and content creators, all the others offer internet access services. I see the evolution of this industry, let's still call it traditional telecommunications, under some good auspices, but depending a lot on the solution some rather administrative issues. A first issue is good regulation or over-regulation, which will not be so good. On the other hand, one of the topics that was really discussed here was the issue of access to infrastructure. The more democratic this aspect - access to the infrastructure - that way we will have the opportunity to have an industry that will contribute to the development of related industries: IT, media creation, content creation", Petru Fuiorea emphasized. "Through RONOG I hope for a civilization of the market, I hope that the world will not just sit in the hall, sit in the corridors, try to develop new ideas, new products all in favor of the final consumer", stated Cristian Copcea, vice-president of the INTERLAN Association. "RONOG is probably the only chance that our societies will not become extremely polarized and enter a collapse. Polarization is a more unpleasant aspect of technology, being the first time in human history that technology generates more unemployment than jobs work", declared during the conference also deputy Varujan Pambuccian, honorary member of the INTERLAN Association. Dan Tofan from CERT-RO (National Cyber Security Incident Response Center) raised the alarm on the fact that in 2014 the number of IPs in Romania that are infected with malware increased by 26%, stating that there is a need of better communication between providers and the institution. Mihai Bătrîneanu, president of ANISP (Association of Internet Providers from Romania) wanted to specify during the first edition of the RONOG conference that "we are the second country in the world, in Europe, in terms of internet speed". Greg Hankins from Alcatel-Lucent also spoke about the speed of the Internet, who gave a speech at RONOG 2014 about its evolution from 1973 to the present. Greg Hankins proposed solutions, but also gave a forecast according to which in 2017 the Internet speed should reach 400 GE. "Through RONOG we are primarily trying to become more visible as small and medium-sized operators on the market and we are trying to encourage collaboration at the technical level or any other level between operators. It is important primarily for operators, whether they are part of INTERLAN or not, or which we hope will be part of in the future", declared Eric Băleanu, president of the INTERLAN Association. The conference was organized by the INTERLAN Association with the support of EURO-IX and was the first official meeting of Internet and telecommunications operators in Romania. RONOG 2014 brought together over 100 participants, representatives of network operators, content service providers, equipment providers, Romanian and foreign profile companies, authorities in the field, prominent personalities from Romania and abroad, opinion leaders and journalists. During the conference, the presenters provided the participants with current and relevant information for the community of Internet and telecommunications operators. RONOG 2014 was an event organized with the support of Euro-IX, 2K Telecom, Bitdefender, RIPE NCC, Internet Society, Alcatel-Lucent, M247 Europe, NX Data and Clico Sp (Juniper Networks sole distributor in Romania). The NOGs (Internet Network Operators Groups) are communities of Internet and telecommunications specialists who create platforms and forums for discussions and debates on issues of common interest, through annual conferences. Thanks to the status of the members within these communities, the NOGs usually have a great power of influence regarding all the functional and operating processes of the Internet.
