Suit: Vintage Video Summary: 00:00 Introduction The Perdomo Champagne Noir was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix. Furthermore, the cigars have been stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated. 00:53 Cigar Overview The Champagne Noir is a celebrated cult classic from Perdomo. It's manufactured in Esteli, Nicaragua, using an accordion style. It features a triple-fermented Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper, which has been aged for 14 months before additional ageing in bourbon barrels for 6 months. It also has Nicaraguan Cuban seed tobacco for its binder and filler. 01:57 Prelight The reviewed vitola is a 6 x 54 Epicure, which is somewhere between a gordo and a toro. There are a few soft spots but the construction is good overall. The spring is generally soft but leans towards the soft end. Its foot reveals notes of tonka bean, cacao, and raisin. The prelight offers excellent airflow with notes of tonk bean, hickory, and raisin on the dry draw. 03:23 Tasting Notes The cigar displays a good construction with a strong backbone. Expect notes of espresso and cedarwood in the first third as well as a caramelised booziness. The second third reveals cacao, nutmeg, and earth. The final third consists of turmeric, oak, and cacao. It's not an overly complex cigar but its weighty mouthfeel and balance offer a good experience. 08:21 Overall Experience The cigar features a regal band with some tawny colours that perhaps need a livelier update. The box is beautifully made and photos are available in the written review. Expect to pay around $8.75 per cigar, which offers excellent value. The Champagne Noir is a versatile cigar that can be smoked for a variety of occasions. 09:43 Pairings Consider enjoying the cigar following a hearty meal. Suggested dishes would be osso buco, black pudding, or even dark chocolate as a direct pairing. As for beverages, and Islay single malt will offer some character but you could instead enjoy a high-quality bourbon or even a rich espresso.
