In this segment, we break down Vodney Cleveland, a massive interior defensive lineman from Montgomery, Alabama, and one of the most physically imposing prospects in UNC’s 2026 class. Cleveland attended Parker High School, playing under head coach Frank Warren, and arrives in Chapel Hill after a high-profile recruitment that included stops at Alabama and Texas before ultimately choosing UNC. Cleveland capped off his senior season with 37 tackles, including 20 solo stops, helping Parker finish 8–4 and reach the second round of the playoffs. His junior season showed his true impact, as he helped lead Parker to a state championship while recording 50 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. His performance earned him invitations to both the Mississippi–Alabama All-Star Game and the Army Bowl, putting him on the national radar. Physically, Cleveland is a true interior force. He’s well over 300 pounds with a thick, powerful frame and a strong initial surge off the snap. His natural mass and knock-back power create immediate problems for opposing offensive linemen, and when he times the snap correctly, he can reset the line of scrimmage and collapse the pocket from the inside. He has the anchor strength to hold up against double teams and the short-area quickness to win early in the rep. Cleveland has the versatility to line up as a 0-tech or 1-tech over the center and can slide to guard in odd fronts, giving UNC flexibility in how they deploy him. While his motor flashes dominance in stretches, continued development will focus on improving snap-to-snap consistency, pursuit range, and conditioning. A college strength program will be key to reshaping his body and unlocking more stamina and quickness. An added bonus: Cleveland will enroll before turning 18, giving UNC a young, moldable interior lineman with significant long-term upside. Our take: Cleveland projects as a multi-year contributor with real starter potential. Early on, he should provide valuable rotational reps as a run-stopping anchor, with the traits to grow into a College Football Playoff–caliber interior presence as his development continues. 📌 Subscribe for more Carolina Football insights 🎙 New episodes of the Tar Pit Podcast drop weekly Follow us: X (Twitter): https://x.com/TarPitPod Instagram: / tarpitpod TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tarpitpod?_t=...
