In this video, Mike Haldas, co-founder of CCTV Camera Pros, walks you through 3 solutions for setting up a reliable barn camera system or security camera solution for any detached structures. Whether you want to monitor farm animals, vehicles, or equipment, this video will help . The main challenge covered here is how to install security cameras in a detached building—like a barn or garage—while keeping the video footage safely stored at your main house. With the security DVR / NVR installed at your house, you can connect it to your Internet connection to enable remote monitoring of your barn via mobile apps. Mike breaks down all the primary methods to get your cameras connected: 1. Hardwired Connection with Power: If you have power in your barn or garage and the distance to your house is less than 328 feet, you’re in luck! You can run a single Cat5e or Cat6 network cable from your home’s router to a POE (Power over Ethernet) switch inside the detached structure. This allows you to connect and power multiple IP cameras (up to eight with an 8-port switch) right at the barn, sending all footage safely back to your DVR or NVR located in the main house. 2. Hardwired Cameras with No Power at the Barn: If there’s no power source in the barn but the distance is still under 328 feet, you can run a dedicated network cable (CAt5 or CAT6) for each IP camera, directly connecting them back to the NVR in your house. The Viewtron NVR supplies power and footage transmission for each camera via the PoE ports. You can learn more about Viewtron IP camera NVRs here. https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/IP-Cam... 3. Wireless Solutions for Longer Distances or No Cabling: For those who can’t run cables (because of distance or property layout), Mike recommends a point-to-point wireless bridge. With antennas mounted on both the house and the barn, you can wirelessly network both structures. Cameras installed at the barn connect to a POE switch, which in turn links up to the wireless bridge and streams footage seamlessly back home. Please note that you must have a unobstructed direct line of site between the wireless antennas. You can learn more about our long range wireless bridge for IP cameras here. https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Wirele... Throughout the video, Mike also highlights the benefits of using Viewtron IP cameras with built-in AI software, offering advanced object detection (including human and facial recognition). With remote internet access, you can keep tabs on your property using the Viewtron app on iPhone, Android, or desktop.
