Robert Schumann: Complete Lieder Works - 4th Volume

Welcome to the 4th episode of Robert Schumann's complete Lieder (Song) works. This video contains his opus numbers 48, 49, 51, 53, 57, and 64. For your information, there are a total of eight episodes, which can be found on my channel page (unless they're not uploaded yet). Enjoy! 1. I have included all Lieder works for voice(s) and piano(s). Unfortunately, choral works such as chorus and orchestra or part songs (voices only without accompaniment) are not included as their forms deviate a little from this video's collection. 2. At first, I wanted to have all works performed by one artist only (to be more specific, one digital album), especially by Peter Schreier, but Youtube doesn't offer me a lot of choice. There are certain works that have multiple voices, and there are some cases where the Youtube videos of the same performers can be found for only some songs of a single opus work, not all. (For example, Op. 27 No. 4 and 5 being available by Peter Schreier and Normal Shetler but No. 1, 2, and 3 NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. THIS PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH.) 3. Therefore, within the limited sources, I decided to use AS MANY ARTISTS (PERFORMERS) AS I CAN. This was not easy, since both the performers' interpretation had to meet my standards AND the audio quality had to be decent AND I wanted to use the same artists (digital album) for the same opus work (to enhance the continuity of the flow). So, hope you enjoy the various artists and their own style and interpretation. (I guess you can take this as a Liederabend, a song recital, of various musicians gathering in the same place and performing their prepared opus work(s).) 4. Some artists are baritones or basses and transpose the original key. Nevertheless, I decided to use the same original score for high voice for every work for two reasons behind it: 1. Viewers might want to look at the original key score by Robert Schumann (like me) and 2. for the coherence of using the Breitkopf & Härtel 1882 edition by Clara Schumann, THE ORIGINAL AND FUNDAMENTAL EDITION that I really like. Now, this might be quite uncomfortable for listeners with absolute pitch... but sorry. 5. Some people might know Robert Schumann's Liederjahr, 1840, where, in that particular year, he vigorously composed tons of Lieder works with the marriage of Clara Wieck-Schumann in his mind. Then, he rarely composed Lieder for almost a decade until 1849 onwards, where he began to compose another batch of Lieder, probably inspired by composing dramatic works such as Genoveva, Faust Scenes, and Manfred, etc. 6. If you listen carefully, you can notice that the composition style and mood (atmosphere) of the Lieder from 1849 onwards differ quite considerably from 1840 despite having the same basic nature of Robert Schumann (this doesn't apply to every single work but generally). This could be because of his maturity and growth but also from the development in his musical aspects of his Lieder from early 1840s (similar with Franz Schubert, more pianistic and poetic) to late 1840s and 1850s (now along with Richard Wagner, symphonic and dramatic). Both styles should be cherished equally, ultimately being Robert Schumann's own world. 7. This is also the reason why I champion Robert Schumann so highly of all composers. He is the perfect blance between the elegance plus absolute musicality of the baroque, classical, and early romantic eras (conservative) AND the colorful, poetic romance plus dark, dramatic, and grand symphonism of the mid and late romantic eras (progressive).
