To the music of Franz Schubert, written in 1828 - the ‘Serenade’ from Swan Song - a love story is born, told without words. It is a farewell and a meeting, as in the music - longing and hope in the same breath. History of Schubert - Serenade (Ständchen, D.957 No. 4) ‘Serenade’ (German: Ständchen) is one of Franz Schubert's most moving and popular melodies, written in the last months of his life, in 1828. It is part of the cycle Schwanengesang (Swan Song), which became a kind of musical farewell to the world. Although the cycle was published after Schubert's death, he wrote the Serenade to poems by Ludwig Rellstab. It is a song of love and longing, filled with exquisite tenderness and deep sadness. In it you can hear the voice of a lover singing softly under the window of his beloved, calling her to come out into the night garden filled with moonlight. Despite its simplicity, the melody is imbued with inner drama. It is like the breath of love itself, fleeting and eternal at the same time.
