Two Species, One Attic: A Wildlife First for Our Team!

After four decades in wildlife control, we've seen it all or so we thought. In all our decades of wildlife work, this is a first, and it completely surprised us. This Spring we discovered a raccoon mom and a squirrel mom nesting in the same attic, just 10 feet apart! This kind of coexistence is incredibly rare. Raccoons are natural predators and will usually go after the squirrel babies if given the chance. So to find both species raising their young so close together, peacefully, is just plain wild. The baby raccoons were around 1 week old, while the baby squirrels were about 2 weeks. Both moms had carefully set up their nests, completely unaware (or surprisingly unbothered) by the other’s presence. We’ve seen a lot in 40 years, but this was truly a once-in-a-career moment.
