The Devtas, Asuras, Rishis and heavenly beings were unable to breathe and sought refuge with Lord Mahadev. The Lord Mahadev, the ever benevolent one drank the poison and attained a bluish hue. The Lord then came to be known as "Nilkantheshwar and this temple is named after the presiding deity Nilkantheshwa Mahadev. Situated on the banks of River Narmada, Zadeshwar road, the centre of faith for the people of Bharuch, Gujarat. 1008 names of Shri Lord Shiva are carved on the temple walls. Beside this temple, another temple with huge Idol of Shri Lord Hanuman ji is situated. Devotees of Narmda River Parikrama called as Parikrama Vasis also do come and offer prayers during their Narmada River Parikrama. During the month of Shravan ( Hindu Calender)various religious activities are organized and devotees can participate and avail benefit of darshan of Sacred river Narmada and evening Aarti.
