WWF Wrestlefest (Arcade Game) - Royal Rumble Longplay 1 - WWF WrestleFest is a 1991 arcade wrestling game developed and published by Technōs Japan, known for its colorful graphics, fast-paced gameplay, and its faithful recreation of the larger-than-life personalities of the WWF (now WWE). A sequel to WWF Superstars, it built upon its predecessor with improved visuals, additional gameplay features, and a larger roster of wrestlers. The game became a cult classic among wrestling fans and arcade enthusiasts alike, often remembered for its vibrant style and arcade-perfect execution of wrestling action. The game offers two modes: Saturday Night's Main Event, a tag-team tournament where players compete to win the championship by defeating other teams, and the Royal Rumble, a battle royale where up to six wrestlers are in the ring simultaneously. The Royal Rumble mode stood out for its chaotic nature, where players needed to eliminate opponents by throwing them over the top rope while surviving in the crowded ring. The roster is composed of WWF legends from the late 1980s and early 1990s, including iconic wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, The Big Boss Man, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, and Ted DiBiase, among others. Each wrestler has unique moves, animations, and finishing maneuvers that reflect their real-life personas. Tag teams such as Demolition and The Legion of Doom are featured prominently, adding to the game's authenticity. Gameplay emphasizes accessibility, featuring simple controls that allow players to perform grapples, strikes, and special moves with ease. Wrestlers also have their signature moves, such as Hulk Hogan’s leg drop and The Ultimate Warrior’s gorilla press slam. The pacing is faster than traditional wrestling games, leaning into arcade-style action over simulation. The colorful, exaggerated animations, combined with the roaring arcade crowd and energetic commentary snippets, bring the WWF's theatricality to life. WrestleFest is also notable for its visual presentation, with highly detailed sprite-based graphics that capture the likeness and personalities of each wrestler. The ring is filled with small details, such as the WWF logo and a dynamic audience in the background, enhancing the overall atmosphere. The music and sound effects complement the action, with themes matching each wrestler's entrances and impactful sound effects for slams, punches, and crowd reactions. The game holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve always admired it for its exceptional multiplayer experience, which allowed up to four players to jump into the action simultaneously. Its straightforward mechanics, combined with a roster of larger-than-life wrestling legends and vibrant graphics, made it an arcade staple that was impossible to ignore in the 1990s. Even though it never received an official home console port at the time, its legacy has endured, fueled by the fond memories of fans like myself and a deep sense of nostalgia. For me, WWF WrestleFest perfectly captured the energy and spectacle of the WWF’s golden era, making it not just a wrestling game but a piece of gaming history that remains unmatched in its charm and execution. If you ask me, it's the greatest arcade wrestling game ever made and easily ranks among the best wrestling games of all time. Personally, it holds the spot as my second favorite wrestling game, surpassed only by the untouchable Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain. P.S. This is my first Royal Rumble longplay video. Slowly but surely, I’m working my way through this mode with every character. Today, it’s Ultimate Warrior ’s turn, my favorite wrestler ever. #retrogamingloft #wwewrestlefestroyalrumblelongplay #wrestefestarcadegame
