Dr. Christopher is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and the Materials Science and Engineering Program at the University of California, Riverside. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2011, where his research focused on the design and synthesis of nanostructured silver catalysts for heterogeneous catalytic and photocatalytic oxidation reactions. Dr. Christopher's research work has been published in several journals that include Nature: Chemistry, the Journal of Physical Chemistry C, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society . His awards include the prestigious Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship awarded by the University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School in 2010 as well as an Outstanding Ph.D. Student Research Award from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Dr. Christopher's ongoing research work includes the development of catalytic chemical conversion processes that are environmentally friendly and approach 100 percent efficiency in the conversion of natural resources to desired products. His research work utilizes a cross-disciplinary approach combining fundamentals across disciplines of chemical reaction engineering, solid-state physics, advanced materials synthesis and physical chemistry to synthesize targeted materials that facilitate efficient chemical transformations and energy production. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
