Slice vs. Range: Fast Multi-Part Fixture Control in ONYX In this quick tutorial, Edward from Obsidian Control Systems explains the Slice and Range selection tools in ONYX—essential techniques when working with multi-part fixtures like LED batons or pixel bars. Here’s what you’ll learn: ✅ Slice Mode – The default mode in ONYX. Allows you to instantly select a specific part number across multiple fixtures. Example: 301.5 THROUGH 308.5 FULL grabs just the 5th pixel of each fixture. ✅ Range Mode – Selects a continuous range of parts across fixtures. Example: 301.5 THROUGH 308.5 FULL in Range Mode selects all pixels between those two addresses. 🧠 Why It Matters: Use Slice to quickly target the same pixel across multiple fixtures. Use Range when you want continuous selections, like the tail end of one fixture and the beginning of the next.
