Shakedown run of the new BBX, which was (finally!) released here in Japan on August 12th. Why we're the last to get a kit from a company based in Japan, I'll never know! 🤷‍♂️ Initial impressions... Engage whisper mode 🤫 The first thing I noticed was how quiet this buggy is. It drives really well and it a lot of fun, And it looks fantastic. Tamiya sure do know how to make a realistic looking retro buggy. The build was mostly straightforward, though the body is composed of six different pieces. Battery removal is par for the course with Tamiya - more complicated than most other buggies.. The biggest problem I found is getting electronics to fit. There is little room under the cowling for an ESC and many will not have battery wires long enough to reach the battery. You may need to install longer wires and as Tamiya suggests - a Tamiya plug to Deans adapter. Remember it is usually not recommended to extend ESC battery wires if at all possible. Oh and a heads up, you'll need "synthetic rubber cement" and also need to drill 1mm holes in the aeration damper caps and 3mm for the front shock mounts. A pin vise is recommended. 🙂 For a complete spec list, see the end of the video. I chose to install a gear diff mainly because I'm not a fan of ball diffs and I may run it on a high grip carpet track at some point. The stock suspension is excellent and the "upgrade" to Big Bore is purely aesthetic. Although I will need to play around with spring rates/oils to fine tune the handling. I may actually put the stock dampers back on (they're very good) and use the Big Bores on something else... That's all for this one. Thanks for watching.
