To put a buck in my tip jar visit / 3minuteadventures Summit Island Peak Video Details The objective of the adventure was to summit Island Peak in the Everest Region of Nepal. The jump off point was Lukla airport, on the outskirts of Lukla Village. I reached Tengbuche on the day 3 and Chukung on day 5. Next Day But before I could climb, some schooling was necessary. So the next day technical climbing school began. Mt Everest loomed in the distance as a backdrop of the lessons. The lessons may look really difficult, but in reality, they really are difficult. It’s due to the altitude. Nothing is easy at altitude for sea dwellers like me. After climbing school Island Peak became the official challenge. We reached its base camp on day 8. We start the following morning at 1 am as did many others. It was a long dark winding ascent in the dark. At about 5,900m we had to go another 300m up snow and ice to reach the summit. Sunrise was a welcome relief but the altitude mad each step painful. The number of climbers dropped in time, but it was still quite crowded. Things really stacked up just below the summit. The summit at 6,160m in sight and just out of reach. The summit only counts if you make it back safely. So back we went. We reached Lukla 4 days later.
