Interview 1 with Professor Alessia Contu (part 1) is part of a series of interviews with esteemed researchers in social sciences (including management and education), included in the book by Angelo Benozzo and Vincenza (Cinzia) Priola (2026) Doing Qualitative Research Critically: Disruptive Practices and New Materialist Entanglements, London: Routledge. Professor Alessia Contu shares her work on intellectual activism as a way to embed the intersections of class, gender and race into the development of management education and the practices of educators and scholars. She explains that intellectual activism is about engaging with the world not just as a thinker or researcher, but as someone who actively seeks to make a difference through ideas, writing, teaching, and public engagement. Professor Contu discusses her commitment to intellectual activism as the use of scholarly knowledge, critical thinking and academic research to challenge social injustices, influence public discourse and promote social change.
