“Departure on Sunday” is a composition by 雪城奥菲斯, and it won first place at the 2016 ChongChong Piano Original Composition Competition. Its colorful harmonies, exhilarating runs, and driving rhythms vividly depict memories, Sunday, and the emotional surge of departure. I first heard it in high school, and even after ten years, it’s still deeply etched in my mind. For many of us, it’s probably an irreplaceable piece of our memories. That said—this piece is inhumanly difficult to play. I once practiced it for a full year and eventually gave up. As a reference, I did manage to play Liszt B minor sonata it in a month and a half. Anyone who’s tried practicing this piece knows how absurd the huge leaps, runs, and complex rhythms are. At the same time, Piano Conductor has released a new update! This is my first attempt at using PiCo to perform an ultra-high-difficulty piece. Honestly… it’s rough. I’m cursing at myself the whole time while playing. Although the performance itself becomes relatively easier, a single wrong note means starting all over again.
