This time I review Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half that clocks in at, 12.7% ABV. Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half as: "What tames an old ale like Curmudgeon? The tender embrace of oak and sweet maple, that’s what. The result is Curmudgeon’s Better Half, a harmonious matrimony of our deceptively smooth old ale brewed with molasses and time spent aging in bourbon barrels that have previously held maple syrup. Because all counterparts should be sweet, rich and utterly delicious." This description sounds quite interesting. Let see if Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half lives up to the description and the hype. My written review follows: Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half WRITTEN REVIEW: A: Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half pours a super clear rich garnet color with a 1.2ead of tightly packed kaki bubbles. Some glass lacing and alcohol legs abound. S: Big maple, raisins, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, burnt brown sugar, faint fruit, earthy hops and very mild booze accented by a touch of char in the background. T: Follows the nose to a T. The alcohol is super well hidden in the taste. M: Full bodied and super smooth. Smooth carbonation and alcohol warmth as it goes down the neck. O: Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half is one of the best barrel aged beers I have had from Founders. Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half packs big flavor and well hidden alcohol considering its a 12.7% ABV brew. Its is a beer that is big all the way around. Big bourbon and malt that somehow does not show up as super boozy. This is a beer I look forward to see how it will cellars and will defiantly drink again.
