Ripped from a MPEG file found online and a mkv file found on torrenting. This is a weird merging of sources I have done here and a bit complicated to do but I will do my best. The MPEG file is 57mn long, the usual lenght for this video. I found it on Guitars101.com thanks to an user who had a DVD copy provided by another fan and basically ripped the DVD to lossless MPEG. The image quality is the best I can find online with this file and most importantly, it's the first time I could display the video at its native 50 frames per second framerate. The problem is the sound, which is a terrible mono mess and is barely listenable. I had to rely on 3 different sources for the audio. 1- Most of the sound comes from a mkv file downloaded here : https://archive.org/details/simple-mi... This mkv file contains a 1987 re-broadcasting of the Ahoy Rotterdam show that was shot for The Tube, except this version has 2 songs removed from the usual 57mn broadcast we've seen online. The best part of this file is the sound, which, though not very sonically precise, has a good punch and decent dynamics, and it really feels like a live mix. I synchronised it with the sound from the MPEG file (at least the featured songs) and I then remastered the sound using Graphic EQ but also a few tools like De-Crackler and else to try and diminish the crackling sounds from the tapes. It has flaws like these but I do think it is the best sound source in terms of overall feeling. But another flaw to this source is that sometimes a few seconds are missing in the middle of some songs, and this is when the 2nd source comes into play ! 2- The other prominent audio source used for this remaster was of course the official soundboard recordings from the 2004 Silver Box and 2008 Themes Collection. Sonically, they sound much better than the mkv file and you can hear a lot more the instruments there, so it is a lot crisper. But I am really not a fan of the sound quality, as it sounds very clinical, compressed and sometimes even unbalanced, like it was almost never mixed properly ! But the absence of two songs on the mkv file (Book of Brilliant Things and Once Upon A Time) and the few missing seconds on some of the other songs made me reluctantly use these official soundboard files. For the whole of Book of Brilliant Things and Once Upon A Time, I remastered the official tracks using Graphic EQ, and I did the same to these official tracks when filling in for the missing seconds of the other tracks (I did my best to blend the two sources together but they are very different and you might hear them in transition). The frustrating thing about these files is the songs can be longer than on the video, but lack many of Jim's banter between songs which you can find on the video. 3- Some of the banter being available only on the MPEG file, I thus had to use the sound from it to make the best transitions possible with either the official soundboard tracks or the mkv file sound. I doubled the volume there as the sound from the MPEG is really low. 00:00 : Waterfront 08:08 : Ghostdancing 15:49 : Don't You (Forget About Me) 24:41 : Book Of Brilliant Things 30:58 : Once Upon A Time 38:17 : All The Things She Said 43:53 : Alive And Kicking 51:22 : Sanctify Yourself
