Originally, the group consisted of Cam'ron, Jim Jones, and Freekey Zekey, who all grew up together in Harlem. Later in 1999, another Harlem rapper named Juelz Santana joined the group. In 2001, after Cam'ron signed a deal, the group secured a record deal with Roc-A-Fella Records. They began working on their first album, Diplomatic Immunity, which was released in March 2003 on Roc-A-Fella Records. Due to issues between Cam'ron and Jay-Z, they parted ways with Roc-A-Fella Records and signed with Koch Records, a smaller label.
