We recently cared for a patient on her first day after surgery. She came to us for laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy to treat hydrosalpinx which means fluid in the fallopian tubes. What made her case special was that she was born with rectal atresia, a condition where the rectum was not properly formed. As a baby, she had surgery by expert pediatric surgeons to fix this, and she has done well since then. Because her abdominal surgery was done as a child, the scar stretched as she grew, causing adhesions and cysts in her abdomen. Despite this, her recent surgery went smoothly. The removal of the hydrosalpinx took just a few minutes, and the careful removal of adhesions took longer. We closely monitored her for any signs of complications and she remained stable. She is doing well now and will be discharged within 24 hours.
