I've been thinking a lot lately about trust, about how much we humans depend on it. Trust is such a rare commodity these days, and it’s crucial for our relationships. The cost of being distrustful is enormous, and it can lead to pain and isolation. I first learned about this concept from Malcolm Gladwell's book, 'Talking to Strangers.' It made me realize how deeply we are wired to trust others, even when we’ve been hurt before. We often cling to the words of those we love, only to find out that their intentions may not align with our best interests. This can be especially painful when it comes from family or close friends. Trust begins in the household, and as children, we learn to predict the behavior of our caregivers. But what happens when that trust is broken? It can lead to a lifetime of struggles in relationships. Jesus teaches us that a house divided cannot stand, and this applies to our families and friendships. Without trust, we lose faith, hope, and the ability to connect with one another. The African family, like many others, faces challenges that can erode trust over time. But there is hope! We can rebuild trust by renewing our minds and looking to Jesus for guidance. He offers us a way to heal and restore our relationships. So, where do you place your trust? I encourage you to rely on God and extend that trust to your family. Let’s navigate our earthly relationships with grace and strength, knowing that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
