How to fold the 5-pointed Ultra Ninja Star. This is a model that my student, Salahaddin, and I came up with a in February 2022 during one of his Zoom tutoring sessions with me. If you would like to book a tutoring session with me here is the link: www.calendly.com/jeremyshafer During the Zoom session, Salahaddin and I designed the model together, and he folded his from printer paper cut square, so it flew especially well as you can see in the intro and that's what I would recommend folding it from if you intend to fly it. I recently found this model as I was sifting through my compilations of Zoom tutoring session model demos, and since I no longer had the model (or at least didn't know in which of my dozens of giant bags of origami I had misplaced it!) I had to figure out how it was folded just by looking at it, which was not trivial! Then, as I was trying to figure out how to teach it, I discovered a really cool guideline that makes the 5-pointed Star perfectly even (at least, as far as I could tell), and I incorporated it into the tutorial. The Ultra Ninja Star flies best when the points of the outer star are folded inward overlapping each other. However, if you want it to fly decently without folding the points inward, you might want to make each module heavier by inserting a kite-shaped folded insert, as I show how to do in the tutorial... But WARNING... Although it will fly better, having it heavier might make it less sturdy and if the star does come apart when you fly it, you will probably need to reassemble it from start to finish. If you elect not to pull out the inner flaps to form the inner star, then it certainly hold together better. At the very end of the video, I spin the model on my finger. This is not easy to do, and I didn't even try to teach it in the tutorial, but here are a few tips if you want to try to figure out how to do it. You need to start it spinning by putting one finger on the bottom and one finger on top with both fingers perfectly vertical. Blow horizontally into the pockets of the star as close to the points as you can and still make it spin. When you feel that it is spinning fast enough only then take the top finger off and continue blowing on it just enough to keep it spinning but not so much as to blow it off your finger. #origamistar #doublestar #jeremyshaferorigami Here are some ways to support me in my work of designing and teaching new origami models. 1.
