Michio Shimada is more than just a martial artist—he’s a transformative force with a storied background and an unbreakable commitment to keeping Taiki Ken alive. From his early days honing his skills in Judo and Karate to his mentorship under the legendary Kenichi Sawai, Shimada’s dedication embodies the fighting spirit of traditional martial arts. The grueling training sessions he endured in the historic Meiji Shrine Forest didn’t merely shape his physical prowess—they cemented his passion for teaching and preserving this centuries-old craft. In 1985, under direct guidance from Sawai, Shimada founded the Taiki Ken Kikoukai dojo in Koganei, Tokyo, thus creating a beacon for martial arts enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in authentic training. Though the dojo’s doors temporarily closed after his mentor’s passing, Shimada’s resolve never wavered. He returned to the heart of his mission: reopening the dojo and expanding his reach to eager students from all around the world. By January 2005, Shimada celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Koganei dojo by embarking on a new chapter—launching a state-of-the-art dojo in Shinjuku, Tokyo. With every kata practiced and every student mentored, Shimada keeps Kenichi Sawai’s spirit alive, honoring a legacy that will shape martial artists for future generations.
