I know that there are a lot of players out there who have nothing but contempt for "pushers" and "moon ballers". "That's not how you play tennis!", as if there's some kind of purity standard. I completely disagree. If nothing is working and you can't get a ball in the court it would be foolish to insist on "losing pretty". If being consistent - regardless of whether your ball is 1 or 20 feet over the net - means you're able to fight your way back into a tennis match, well, then that's what you have to do. To me, it's a sign of being mentally strong to change your game and do whatever it takes to win with a sound tactical measure. If you lose against a "pusher", well, then either you weren't willing or able to stay in long, grinding rallies. And that's on you, not the consistent player. To show that the best of the best are not shying away from "winning ugly" take a look at Iga Swiatek. The 2020 Roland Garros French Open Champion wasn't too concerned about what anyone would think. She did what she had to do to stay in the match. And not only did she win that match she went on to win the entire tournament!
