Young learners can gain important writing skills from this exercise! The teacher will say a sentence (it is important that the punctuation mark is emphasized) then the class will repeat that sentence, counting each word as they do. Each student will write that sentence down (being careful to consider the punctuation mark) then, the teacher will write that sentence on the board to check for understanding with their class. This is a simple, but very effective tool for young writers/ plurilingual students, who are still becoming familiar with writing in English.
