Every year during the twenty days of Feudal Fair, Karlovac goes back in time to the Middle Ages. Most of the events take place in the old town of Dubovac. Visitors can expect performances, plays, battles, as well as the possibility of trying out various trades and skills and meeting old medieval characters. Square tower of the Dubovac Castle was built in the 13th century as a defence against the Turks. Later the people moved to the valley of the Kupa River, which was the most important water way, and the city of Karlovac was built as a six-pointed star. It is a city of rich history, filled with green parks and surrounded by the Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica and Dobra Rivers. For many years Karlovac had a strategic location at the crossroads of the commercial routes. First railway line to Zagreb passed through Karlovac, so as the first roads to Rijeka. Nowadays, Karlovac is renowned for youth festivals, brewery, medieval fair and transport hub
