Lung cancers can be detected by incidental chest x-ray in apparently normal healthy person who has come for a screening with the chest x-ray we see a small nodule in the lung. He has some risk factors like smoking and family history of cancer in the family and that can be a first instance that lung cancer can be detected and that not very rarely we detect those cases so early which are stage one or stage two where they are curative, resectable. There are new advanced tools for these things to detect them early and they can be resectable and if they are not found to be spread anywhere else in the body. Other things are symptomatic and most of the time they present late they come with the pneumonias which are not improving there might be endobronchial growth. They may come with blood in the sputum. They may come with breathlessness and chest pain, they might come with the fluid collection in the lungs, they put a tube into the chest and do a fluoroscopy or thoracoscopic biopsies. Sometimes they need a Bronchoscopic biopsy and they are very very distant and close to the chest wall you can do a CT guided biopsy and diagnose lung cancer. This is the way the lung cancer present. Sometimes they are distally spread and we can see a lymph nodes in the neck and the swelling in the neck or sometimes they are spread to the brain and they may present with the swelling of arm and like more of superior vena cava syndrome and sometimes they may present with paraneoplastic syndrome and these are the various varities of manifestation. Sometimes weight loss alone in a patients with the risk factors for lung cancer on an occasion of old lung cancer day that is August 1st and we have to take right steps to make lungs breathe healthy and especially the risk factor avoidance especially smoking to be quit and there are other tobacco chewing and other risk factors are associated risk factor for lung cancers. There are empty number of risk factors like asbestosis exposures and other causes are also there and an old scar can also turn into malignancy and we need to screen them with low-dose CT scans and that's the message I want to give on this World Lung Cancer Day.
