An NHS patient who was left for more than four days in hospital corridors has described his treatment as “inhuman”. Peter, not his real name, contacted ITV News after seeing our secretly filmed footage of ‘corridor care’ at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. It comes as the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) warns it has become a “permanent fixture” in NHS hospitals, with some nursing staff describing the conditions as “a type of torture”. Peter from Liverpool spent four hours waiting in an ambulance, then 12 hours in an A&E corridor, followed by 18 hours in another corridor. When he thought he was finally being transferred to a ward he was, in fact, placed in a curtained area at the end of another corridor, next to a cupboard. He spent another three days there. Speaking to ITV News while he was still in hospital, Peter described the experience as “mental cruelty”. A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson told ITV News: “No one should receive care in a corridor." • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: / itvnews Follow ITV News on Facebook: / itvnews Follow ITV News on X: / itvnews
