#BD_ENDOSCOPY A polypectomy is a surgical procedure to remove polyps, which are abnormal growths of tissue on a mucous membrane. These polyps can occur in various parts of the body, such as the colon, stomach, uterus, cervix, and nose. Polypectomies are often performed during colonoscopy, endoscopy or hysteroscopy. The procedure is typically minimally invasive and aims to prevent potential complications like cancer or to alleviate symptoms caused by the polyps. What is a polyp? A polyp is a growth of tissue that can develop on the lining of organs like the colon, stomach, uterus, or other areas with mucous membranes. Polyps can be benign (non-cancerous) or cancerous, and they may or may not cause symptoms. Large polyps, however, can sometimes cause symptoms like bleeding, pain, or changes in bowel habits.
