Many who experience an eating disorder may once have enjoyed a really healthy and happy relationship with sport and exercise. In fact, fitness may have been something which kept their mind and body well. But eating disorders change relationships with exercise. Often, any kind of lower body movement can become compulsive, damaging, and part of the cycle of restricting, purging, and remaining in calorie deficit. It's therefore really important for anyone recovering from an eating disorder to consider carefully, when might be the right time to resume regular exercise, and what form that should take so as not to be triggering or unhelpful to progress. Certainly, have a return to fitness and sport and physical activity as one of your motivations to recover, but do so mindful that your focus should always be on ensuring that retaining a healthy body and mind is fundamental, and not to be put at risk.
