Ine is a fishing village in Kyoto Prefecture, and the only place in Japan where you can see funaya - a type of boathouse that sits directly on the water's edge, allowing boats to be driven right into the ground floor, and docked there. This beautiful village can be done as a day-trip from Kyoto City, but spending 2 days here means you can also visit the legendary Amanohashidate*, an sandbar covered in pine trees, that runs through the see, connecting land on either side of Miyazu Bay. This sight is considered *one of the three most scenic places in Japan, and is a good base to access Ine from.
