Korngold plays the Letter Song from the opera Kathrin

Erich Wolfgang Korngold plays the lovely Letter Song [Briefszene] from his last opera KATHRIN, composed 1932-37. Premiered in Stockolm October 7 1939 but not heard in Vienna until 1950, it is one of his most romantic and melodious scores. His grand-daughter is named after the opera. This rare recording, made in Vienna in the summer of 1951, features one of his most beautiful performances on the piano - the exquisite cantabile and effortless, very subtle rubato are particularly notable. The recording issued on a long deleted LP, has been unavailable for many years so I am happy to share it again with his admirers here on YOU TUBE. Enjoy!
