Major General Gowon & Rear Admiral Wey Celebrate Nigeria's 1st Decade of Independence | October 1970

October 1st 1970. Footage of the leaders of the Federal Government of Nigeria celebrating the first decade of Nigeria's independence from British rule. Major General Yakubu Gowon, the Head of the Federal Military Government (FMG) and Rear Admiral Wey, the Chief of Naval Staff and member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) led the celebrations at Tafawa Balewa Square. Also present were Mrs. Victoria Gowon, the wife of the Head of State and Brigadier Eyo Ekpo, the Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters. It was the first celebration of independence since the ending of the Nigerian Civil War. Source of footage: Film dot Ru.
