Waukegan FD + Mutual Aid on Scene of a Working Structure Fire in Waukegan, IL [Box Alarm #16-1]

The Waukegan Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at Soto's Bakery, 2229 Grand Ave. Heavy black smoke was reportedly showing from the 15-unit strip mall. Upon arrival, emergency crews found smoke and flames showing from the roof. Command requested MABAS Box Alarm #16-1 to the box alarm level, bringing fire apparatus from other departments to the scene. Firefighters deployed aggressive tactics and prevented the fire from destroying both the medical building and adjacent business. Over half of the businesses in the strip mall were able to reopen within two hours of the fire. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. This incident occurred on 06/15/20 at around 2:55 PM.
