This undermined the comparability, and thus also the credibility, of cross-country analysis of cities. To resolve this problem, in this video, the term "city" is defined by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs under United Nations as urban agglomeration. That is a highly developed spatial form of integrated cities. It occurs when the relationships among cities shift from main competition to both competition and cooperation. As the world continues to urbanize, a handful of countries will account for much of the growth. Russia is the largest country in the world by area, almost double the size of the second largest country, Canada. In addition to being the largest country, Russia is also one of the most populous and is home to some of the largest cities in the world. Moscow by far contributes to the population statistics, boasting a population of over 12 million residents as of 2022. However, Moscow isn't the only large city that's found in Russia. There are 14 additional cities that each have populations exceeding one million. Furthermore, there are over 200 cities with a population of over 100,000, while there are more than 1,200 that have populations exceeding 10,000 people. It's not difficult to see why Russia is one of the world's most populous countries. The cities are divided among the country's political divisions, known as federal subjects. Russia has a total of 85 federal subjects. Urban areas are the home of over 75% of the inhabitants in Russia.
