Video date: 28 March 2025 00:00 Frankton 9:40 Queenstown Town Centre 13:03 Glenorchy-Queenstown Rd 20:01 Wilson Bay 22:14 Twelve Mile Delta Autumn in Queenstown is a magical time, when the leaves turn golden and the air feels crisp and fresh. This road trip begins in Frankton, a lively lakeside suburb near the airport, surrounded by mountains and home to shops, cafes, and local life. From there, we follow the road along the edge of Lake Wakatipu toward the heart of Queenstown – the Town Centre – where the buzz of restaurants, boutiques, and waterfront views creates a perfect mix of energy and charm. Leaving the town behind, the drive continues along the scenic Glenorchy–Queenstown Road to Wilson Bay, a peaceful hidden gem known for its clear blue water and stunning views across the lake to the mountains. The final stop is Twelve Mile Delta, a quiet and wild spot where forest meets lake, perfect for relaxing, walking, or just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. This journey captures the beauty of Queenstown in early autumn – full of colour, calm, and breathtaking views around every bend. Queenstown is described by Statistics New Zealand as a medium urban area with an area of 86.61 km2 (33.44 sq mi). It had an urban population of 29,000 (June 2023), making it the 24th-largest urban area in New Zealand. In 2016, Queenstown overtook Oamaru to become the second-largest urban area in Otago, behind Dunedin.
