'Āhuihui ana’e! To’erau Manu Rahi presents to you “Te 'ōro’a o te ‘ānani.” Gather all as we celebrate the Orange Festival in Puna'auia here at the San Jose Tahiti Fête. As To’erau Manu Rahi takes the stage, we take you on the journey with the 'aito, as they travel up the mountains of Mārau, Aora'i, 'Orohena, and Tiara to harvest the oranges, in the Tamanu district. The ‘aito are strong and carry their harvest down the mountains to begin the town festivities. Awaiting their arrival, our tamari’i pay homage with an ‘ōte’a thanking the 'aito for their courage and for the strength to carry on with the traditions of the tupuna. Our tamari’i continue the tradition by planting new trees from the oranges collected in the harvest to provide for future generations. Next is the story of Puna, a royal blood warrior made famous thanks to his fights in the Tahitian peninsula and by his idyll with a princess living among the oranges of red color. This is how the legend of the warrior Puna was printed on the sides of the mountains of the west coast, on the seaside, the plateaus, valleys, and rivers. Anchored in the imagination of all Polynesians, this legend gave rise to the rite of picking oranges. Our tamari’i open the celebration with an ‘aparima to show their admiration and appreciation for our ‘aito. A beautiful symbol to show their deep love for the culture and traditions. We conclude with our grand celebration of the cherished ‘ānani. The people of Puna'auia joyfully celebrate. The celebration consists of many events from a parade, beauty pageant, and its own heiva. Our celebration presents each of these events and are highlighted in our ‘ōte’a ‘āmui, pā’ō’ā, and vahine ‘ōte’a.
