This play was written way before the “Nirbhaya “ case of gang rape happened . Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. This play deeply scrutinizes the sensitive issue of reporting a ‘gang rape’. All the characters are aware of a violent crime being committed next door however none has the guts to stop the crime nor report the incident to the police. This play sheds some light on the reality of the situation highlighting the fact that the most common ACTION by the onlookers is doing NOTHING This societal flaw is justified in the name of selfish excuses—The characters of the play stands complacent to the crime being committed. In this play Padmanabhan sheds some light on man-women relationships and the patriarchal power that rule the society. A woman is always seen playing a subservient role to a man, and the blatant audacity of gaslighting the female protagonists by the male protagonists seems amazingly familiar. This play is based on a real incident that happened in Santa Cruz, Mumbai in 1882 . It exposes how insensitive have we become in this age of crime towards the misery of others. The play is set in sixth floor apartment, in Mumbai which belongs to upper middle class married couple Leela and Bhaskar. They have been hearing sexual crimes and cries from their neighboring building. However--------will they have the guts to STOP the crime .
