What’s better than whips?

Do we still need to use whips? Longe whips, dressage whips, riding crops, "carrot sticks”? Yes, it’s hard to stop using — or even simply carrying — whips. But the benefits of giving up whips makes it worth the awkward transition. I had fun filming this with the horses last week :) We can give up the whip WITHOUT abandoning the goal of healthier movement. We just need alternatives... something that can help replace not the whip itself but the very REASON we needed it. And it’s sooooo much fun for both horse and human. I have not had to carry a whip for many years. Today, I use only tools that can't be used to threaten or pressure the horse into moving. Yet the horses still move :) That's not MY special abilities. As a muggle in the horse world, I instead rely on science. And science — NOT the Old Masters — holds the keys to joy.
