Dr Jeffrey Hannah Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor @ Clear Chiropractic Spokane https://ClearChiroSpokane.com *** Subjective Cognitive Dysfunction in Patients With and Without Fibromyalgia: Prevalence, Predictors, Correlates, and Consequences https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti... *** Brain fog is not a phenomenon unique to rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia, though it is certainly more prevalent with these groups. I would also argue from my own experience that it is exceptionally common among people with a history of whiplash, concussion, migraine, vertigo and dizziness conditions as well. Although brain fog is not fully understood, there are a few things we can know: 1. Brain fog is a symptom. It is an effect. It is not a cause in itself. 2. Brain fog is highly associated with other disorders and symptoms, which suggests a common root cause. 3. The severity of these other symptoms is often associated with the severity of brain fog as well. One hypothesis I would like to propose as a contributing (but not sole cause) of brain fog is that of a problem with the alignment, motion and/or stability of the joints in your upper neck where the spine meets the skull. We know that there is a structure called the superior cervical ganglion located along the front of the bones in your upper neck that supply the blood vessels and lymphatic channels in your brain. We also know that the alignment and motion of the top vertebrae in your neck influence the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which supplies oxygen, water and nutrients in order for your brain to function properly. Thus, when people may have an undiagnosed problem with their upper neck, even a very slight one, like wrapping a rubber band around your finger, it can disrupt the normal circulation of fluid to, from and within the brain that can thus manifest as a plethora of symptoms including brain fog. One of the tell-tale signs that we propose is when you may feel fine when you lie down, but then feel progressively worse the longer you are sitting or standing during the course of your day. If that is the case, we may advise getting in touch with a qualified healthcare professional who specifically deals with the function of your brainstem and upper neck, because that can be one major missing piece of the puzzle to getting well. *** The Blair technique is a special division of general chiropractic that focuses on the alignment, motion and stability of the atlas vertebra because of its unique relationship with your nervous system, which controls every function in your body. Unlike general spinal manipulation, there is no twisting, cracking or stretching. The Blair technique is a gentle and precise approach that utilizes a series of physical, neurological and diagnostic tests in order to provide the highest level of personalized healthcare. When your atlas is aligned, your body has the potential to be healthy. However, when it is misalignment, your brain and body (simply put) are not able to work as efficiently as they otherwise would, and the inevitable consequence is where problems start to occur. The big idea of the Blair technique is that by restoring the normal alignment, motion and stability at the junction between your head and neck, your own nervous system and its innate mechanisms are free and able to do what your body is designed to do: heal itself. And when that force is able to flow freely through your body from above-down, inside-out, anything it possible.
