This is the PFM sound system produced in the 70's and 80's. This is the improved 2nd version over their earlier version put out in the early 70's. The example engine is a Tenshodo GN S-1 with the speaker added in the tender. The sound system has 3 tapes, each tape has 4 tracks, each with a different sound. Besides the whistle, hiss (steam release) and chuff sound, additional sounds are: 3 bell sounds, cross compound and single air pumps, 3 wheel noise motions (slow, medium, fast), Generator sounds, blower sounds, coupler sounds. The whistle has 5 pitches plus 5 toggles, each with 3 positions giving, virtually, unlimited whistle sounds. The whistle also has a reverb unit for the 'echo' affect. The chuff is also adjustable. Momentum is also part of the throttle speed. For it's day, this was leading edge sound, and, really, still has many sounds not found in today's DCC steam modules.
