This is the most time- and material-efficient method we've found for cutting wedges to make Standard Unit Blocks Ramps. Next we trim the length, sand the faces to remove any sawmarks, round-over the edges and all corners except the "nose" to a gentle curve, roll the block on a belt sander, and hand-sand the final ramp with careful attention to the "nose" of the ramp, which we make into a buildable surface. Most manufacturers will take the Standard Unit Block measuring 5.5" x 2.75" x 1.375", slice off a portion, throw that portion away, and sand the crap out of what is left. We cut two ramps 5.5" long ramps out of a 7.5 to 8 inch long section of milled 2.75" x 1.375" FSC-certified, kiln-dried Hard Rock Maple. More blocks, more care, less waste.
