Check your gaps! ⬇ Fire doors are intended to create a barrier that prevents the passage of smoke and flames from one area of a building to another – to save lives & protect property. One important aspect to consider is the correct gap sizes around a fire door. 🚪 For a fire & smoke sealing system to function properly in the event of a fire it is essential to maintain specific clearances around the perimeter of the fire door including the gap at the threshold. 🚪 The gap between the door & the frame is extremely important – in general the gap should not exceed 3mm along the 2 long edges & across top of the door leaf. 🚪 In the case of a seal mounted onto the door stop, the gap can be 2mm between the stop and the face of the door leaf. 🚪 Smoke, acoustic and thermal seals will need to touch both the door and the frame to be effective. 🎁 For your complimentary gap tester, email [email protected]. *Please note, gap testers do not replace the need for full fire door inspections by a competent person - they are purely to assist the process & act as a gauge to see if your fire door gaps are too large or too small. Other checks must be carried out to ensure fire doors are compliant. Fire Door Gaps – key to effective fire & smoke containment.
