Why TikTok is Toxic, Trash and Dangerous | Bakit Minsan Toxic Ang Tiktok Most social media these days is designed to be addictive. Social media companies want users to stay on their sites for longer, interact with content, and buy things. They aren’t doing it for us, they’re doing it for them. The more we ingest, the more money they make. Over the last two years TikTok’s gone and made itself a magic potion of engaging content, captivating music, and personalized algorithms. Their format relies on marketing science, involving dopamine and random reinforcement. This keeps people on their app for hours, scrolling continuously even if they aren't enjoying themselves. The Tiktok addiction matches your attention. The algorithm works by picking videos with the most watch time and engagement on your page, then suggesting similar content. Because each TikTok video is a minute or less, the most effective way to get traction on your account and engagement from you as a passive viewer is to release shocking content to get comments on a video, not just views. This is very common, and the most usual comments are from men and women trolling one another, often saying disgusting, degrading things. This creates an 'us versus them' culture, causing men and women to polarize further in society both online and offline. TikTok is the evil antagonist in your life. The whole app feels like a personal attack against everything you're trying to get done. You will fall deeper into their trap of addiction. It is even worse than Facebook when it comes to encouraging you to look at your screen for hours. Remember as a kid - especially if you're 90s kid - you used to sit down and watch your favorite cartoon anime on TV. You would be sitting there and sometimes think a little about your next plans to help your parents with the household chores, or what homework you had to complete. But it would be pretty easy to put these thoughts to the back of your mind and concentrate on the TV show, because you knew that the show was great, it would make you happy, and then after a certain period of time you would be focussing on your next task. You could watch and enjoy your TV show, or even play a game of basketball outside with your friends, and you would only be engaged in that moment - taking pleasure from interacting with people, or guessing what was going to happen next in the TV show... But now, especially for teenagers, they can no longer focus on anything. Of course this is partly to do with the fact they've grown up using smart phones, but apps like TikTok never used to be so prevalent. #ToxicTikTok #bodymindspirit #Enlightenment MUSIC: Moments by Sappheiros / sappheirosmusic Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b....
