The Scottish health secretary has vowed to help women from the country who have been affected by harmful TVT mesh implants. Alex Neil MSP used an extraordinary summit at Holyrood to pledge that he would launch a working group to look into how to best support the women who have been left in agony after material used to ease prolapse and bladder complaints malfunctioned. The health secretary indicates that the Scottish government will do "everything in [its] power" to help victims, but warned manufacturers that they have a "real responsibility" to solve the problems caused by TVT mesh implants and provide assistance to the women affected. Holyrood is looking at a number of proposals to help prevent more people being left in pain from this type of surgery, including a register of implant patients and ensuring that they are better informed before any operations.
