There are many hiking trails in Picos de Europa, and this circular one is great as an introduction, as it has many adjacent routes that you can chose to go or not. Once you take the cable car to the top from Fuente De, you get the full integration in the untouched and breathtaking nature of Picos de Europa. We took a 4 day hike from Fuente De to Sotres, Sotres to Bulnes, Bulnes to Caín de Valdeon via la Ruta del Cares, Caín to Posada de Valdeon, and back via the ancient trading trail called Senderillo de Mercado. A dazzling array of mountains, woods, rivers, ascents, and descents. Five insights for your first visit to Picos de la Europa: ⛺️ If hiking between villages and refugios, you will save weight on a tent, as there are not many places where you can mount one. ☀️ It's the North of Spain, but it's still Spain. Sunscreen is a must. 📵 Cell coverage is limited, so have some offline maps. 🦵Prepare for steep slopes on both ascent and descent, some routes will be covered with mud and water.
